Nothing like a dose of good old fashioned common sense and patriotism first thing in the morning. Thank you, Roger. Happy 4th of July to everyone!

I'm with you on this one Roger! All I care about these days is the health and safety of my kids and other family members (of course a couple of really good friends I can count on one hand.) At 71, I'm working PT as a dedicated grocery bagger at a local chain here in NC just to make a few extra bucks to put back into savings after a couple of weddings. I don't engage in any political conversations with fellow teammates or customers as I have learned that lesson many times over. Most of my teammates are younger, high school kids that are too transfixed with their cell phones which Mgmt. has banned during working hours. However, they do not enforce the rule as they face finding anyone who wants to work these days. We sell Made in China fireworks that come in all shapes, sizes and pricing. It's great to see the youngsters and parents pick and choose their preferred types. It brings back memories of the good ole' days of M-80's and Cherry Bombs I grew up with on Long Island!! Have a great 4th and God bless America, POTUS, our military and Veterans.

I'm watching the House live proceedings and it appears the Republicans have the votes to pass the BBB, but the Democrat leader, who has a Muslim name, has been filibustering for three hours after an all-night session to delay interminably the vote for passage all the while gaslighting the American people who want the tax cut in the bill. As I said about the Muslim socialist Democrat nominee for mayor in New York City, "he'd make a great mayor-- in Tehran."

As for Elon, I just bought a Tesla and a substantial portfolio of Tesla stock and I'm not happy with his presumption that he is now the fountain of wisdom in American politics and can destroy the Republican Party on a whim. There are certain things that are better accomplished behind the scenes and destruction of the only party with a modicum of common sense in Washington is not one of them.

Happy Fourth of July to you and yours, Roger. Let Freedom Ring!

While I appreciate the sentiment, and am entirely on board with the idea of getting this thing done and behind us, I have to admit there is something to be said for making the Congress argue and trade. This is a huge amount of money, and the true believers all say it will be covered by an improving economy. I am skeptical about that because if the Congress sees next year that the economy is improving, you can bet they will lard on the goodies in the next bill. Buying off voters is an inexorable movement, and Lisa Murkowski just showed how far that can be stretched.

So I would like to get beyond the nasty backbiting before the 4th, but I'm not sure passage of this bill will accomplish that. Just look at Chuck Schumer and tell me he will be quiet. And patriotic. Nah, I didn't think so either. And the same for Hakeem Jeffries and a handful of other opposition leaders. Nasty flows through their veins like chablis through Nancy Pelosi's. It's who they are; it's how they roll.

But a nice thought on this 249th anniversary of our Independence.. Thank you.

Flier, I can assure you I despise the people you mentioned as much and possibly more than you do. I have met them and, alas, our politicians are the worst of our country. That’s likely true everywhere. So I hold with what I said for the people- not for them. They are hopeless.

Very fair. They are indeed hopeless. And two-faced. Venal. Corrupt. Petty. Please stop me before I use up every perjorative in the dictionary.

Flier, agree with you nearly 100%, but believe that there is a seed of redemption in each of us. I was astonished with myself as I realized I was impressed by much of Jeffries speech this morning. He's got the wrong policies, and his rambling was for delay and morning TV, but he knows his history and his Declaration of Independence, and can string coherent words into a sentence that wraps itself around our shared patriotism. If he ever became speaker (God forbid), he could at least lead in respectable form. Kudos where kudos are warranted has the same effect as (in my grandmother's saying) "You catch more flies with sugar than you do with vinegar."

GCO:

That's a nice sentiment, and I won't disagree. But I'll also point out that in nature a very large number of seeds never germinate. Maybe that happens with human redemption too.

HUZZAH !

"Huzzah" is an old-fashioned, literary exclamation used to express joy, approval, or encouragement, similar to "hurrah" or "hooray". It can also be used as a call for coordinated effort..."

Roger and Sheryl, thank you both for your service to the USA by your skilled craft in

writing, creating and expressing our inner longings clearly and timely.

Carry on my friends, well said and well done.

I say again, HUZZAH!

After 4 years of helping to pour $billions into a shredder and nothing to show for it, NOW they want to slow Trump's bill with all signs pointing to Trump's mastery of the economy.

Likely one of the persuasive arguments being used against the deficit hawks is the fact that President Trump is indeed working on terminating the Federal Reserve Act. And with its termination, the US Treasury will thus be able to issue new currency interest-free and thus, after all the interest bearing bonds retire in thirty years, the $38 trillion National Debt will have disappeared.

With the termination, American taxpayers will henceforth use inflation to pay for Congress's habit of deficit-spending, a much better alternative than annually accumulating wasteful debt-service (currently 25% of federal revenues ($1 trillion/$4 trillion respectively)).

Roger, I thought of JFK's "Profiles of Courage" that I just finished reading for the first time as I read this edition of American Refugees just now. POC is full of the accounts of congressmen, mostly senators, who stood against the tide and it cost them political and popular capital to do so. In this case, the courageous ones are those who, despite the obvious flaws in the BBB, will throw in with Trump in his quest to obliterate the woke, socialist Left that has done its best to destroy the America we all love. "Congress, pass this bill now!" (In case any of them have the good sense to read your stuff.)

Well said. Why didn’t all the complainers and perfectionist do something all year instead of sitting on their fat butts? Especially Sen Paul. He always talks about what he doesn’t like and what he’s going to do but never actually does anything. End of rant

Everyone go out and eat some burned hot dogs (btw, if you’ve never tried them kosher ones are the best). Stay safe and healthy.

The term “lilliputian” keeps running through my head. I have always been fascinated by the fact that history is not so much dependent on great victories or victors but by the overcoming the mundane. The names of Paul, Massie, Roy will take their place along side all those other “indispensable men” that graveyards are full of. Excellent article,

Good advice. Keep things in perspective. The changes required to realign the USA to a stable economy and society aren’t going to happen with one bill or one politician.

I am enjoying the morning after July 4th. What a wonderful celebration it was yesterday. And you are correct—yesterday’s fireworks took me back to my childhood because I did not once question where the fireworks came from and just enjoyed the site. G-d bless our country, our President, and all the positive parts of the BBB.
