Yes, Iranians Can Throw Off the Mullahs
Bombing nukes not the beginning of World War III but the prevention
How will Iran’s ruling mullahs—the so-called Assembly of Experts and Ayatollah Khamenei himself— react to an amazing American president’s decimating their nuclear program?
If they were even relatively normal human beings, we would know the answer. They might do something small to save face, but after that would sue for peace to preserve their country and themselves. Otherwise their economy would be destroyed and the regime with it.
Unfortunately, they aren’t, anything near normal, that is.
Evil as Xi and Putin may be, they are at least, to us, somewhat rational actors. Not so the mullahs. They follow a bizarre messianic eschatology—”Twelver” Shia Islam—through which they wish (or wished) to take over the entire world. At least some of them do. Others may be playing along for profit. But whatever the case, that is who is putatively in charge.
In all, it’s a kind of religious insanity.
As is generally known, they exercise power with incredible brutality, especially toward women, with levels of misogyny that are horrifying to read about, let alone witness or experience.
I have spoken with victims of this misogyny—rape is almost the least of it—and wonder what American women like AOC and Whoopi Goldberg are thinking when they make their moronic pronouncements. Nothing much, I’m afraid, except about themselves.
But more interesting in this situation is what the Iranian people themselves will do My wife and I met several victims of 2009 demonstrations—the ones Obama turned his back on—and they were exceptionally brave men and women, all of whom had endured terrible torture. They represent a part of Iran we could look up to
But are there enough of them? Will we see a revival of the Iran we love, of Persia?
We can assume there are thousands of Iranian dissidents who have been feeding information to the US and Israel for decades. They will have more freedom now. Working against are not just the regime themselves but the fact there are so many different movements inside Iran, so many different ethnicities in a country of ninety million (hint: Ted Cruz). It’s been very difficult to get them to come together.
But I’m going to be optimistic and say that they will finally come together, albeit with the usual bumps, and form a government considerably better than what is there now.. I will further say that ramifications of what just happened are huge and there will be, to a great extent, a New Middle East with the Abraham Accords spreading to include Saudi Arabia within a year (really it already happened but faces must be saved).
Both Donald Trump and Bibi Netanyahu will be seen as leaders of great historical significance, the kind that are written about again and again over centuries, while our other recent presidents —Biden, Obama, Bush, Clinton, etc.—will be largely ignored by all but specialists.
Besides those two men, the militaries of their countries are big winners. Putin and Xi must be looking on in wonder. This may have given Xi second thoughts about Taiwan. It was certainly in Trump’s mind when he acted. Who could deny now that our president is a great tactician? He plays poker on a global scale and wins.
Those in his own party who have been questioning his actions now look like fools.
I will try not to gloat now and rub it in, only mention that I was shocked in some cases the degree they acquiesced to Iranian misogyny. Women, as even Chairman Mao noted, hold up half the sky.
Another prediction: Democrats are already opening their yaps about another Trump impeachment. It’s hard to believe how stupid they have been recently. But it’s likely this is a bridge too far and they will pull back in a few days. If they don’t, it’s virtual political hari-kari.
And then there are those in the GOP who are branding Trump’s action “unconstitutional”.
To them I can only give the famous response of Moon Unit Zappa back in the 1980s: “Gag me with a spoon.”
Finally, as others have mentioned, what we witnessed on Sat Jun 21, 2025 was not the beginning of World War III. It was the prevention of World War III.
SPOT. ON. ROGER.
Hard to destroy Isreal with a nuclear strike ( their demented plan all along) when all of their nuclear-weapons grade 235 is in a puddle deep beneath megatons of rubble.
Trump indeed is playing multi-dimensional chess with the other world leaders. I can only imagine their thoughts.
"Well, shit, I didn't see THAT coming..."
Assuming historians in the future will be like those of the past, you are so right about Trump taking his place along side the greatest movers/shakers of them all. There is no one on the world or domestic stage that is his match.
