On Wednesday, the United Nations General Assembly showed us all, for the umpteenth time, what a sewer it is. This time, as is often the case, it’s Israel that finds itself the target of the bloated grifting bullies, I mean diplomats. An insane resolution that in effect denies Israel its right to self defense passed overwhelmingly (124 - 14, with 43 abstentions). The resolution calls on the IDF to withdraw to pre-1967 borders within 12 months, and also calls on member states not to sell arms or military equipment to Israel that would be used in Gaza, the West Bank, and east Jerusalem. It calls for a boycott of all Israeli products produced over the pre-1967 lines.
For any masochists out there, here’s a copy of their diligent taxpayer funded work.
Meanwhile, our homegrown fifth column College Board, presided over since 2012 by a member of my tribe, David Coleman, does its part to misinform our most studious high school students with an AP World History curriculum that is a wildly inaccurate antisemitic fantasy.
I invoke CEO Coleman’s religion only because he himself invoked it some years ago when he was faced with a similar public kerfuffle over a revised version of the AP US History curriculum.
How did we end up with student protestors on campuses all over the nation defending rape, torture and murder? I’m looking at you, David Coleman.
It is David Coleman, and too many others like him who, without naming names, President Trump was speaking about last night at a campaign event on antisemitism followed by a speech at the Israeli-American Council’s National Summit. Unfortunately, Coleman has influence over the education of the vast majority of our nation’s students, and it is a malign influence. What is the explanation for David Coleman’s actions? The 40% of American Jewish voters who are supporting Donald Trump in 2024 are at their wits end trying to explain to the Coleman 60% (according to Trump’s figures last night) that THEY are creating MORE antisemitism with their blind allegiance to what has become a shell company, the Democratic Party.
Thank you for tolerating my rant, but what is to be done? Or more specifically, what can I do besides yelling at people, which achieves nothing but elevated blood pressure and entrenched positions? The answer, unsurprisingly because it’s in my Ashkenazi DNA, is to use humor. It’s obvious and at the same time, as the world goes crazier and crazier, harder and harder to remember. Fortunately for me, a reminder was waiting for me in the Screenwriters Attic, which I’ll share with you here.
Ten years ago, during another gloomy time in our country and the world, Roger and I vented our frustration by mocking the very same malevolent global organization mentioned above. Our approach was a lighthearted half hour comedy series, “The Peacemaker.” We didn’t get too far, because for Hollywood, the UN was and remains a sacrosanct institution. But times are changing and institutions, good and bad, are crumbling. Maybe we’ll get lucky with this one.
NOTE TO READERS: There are two downloadable files. The first is an abbreviated synopsis of the show, characters, pilot and potential episodes. The second is a completed first draft of the pilot, which as often happens in the process, departs significantly from the synopsis. Both are very short reads. Hope you enjoy!
To tickle your Ashkenazi funny bone:
What is Jewish History? — “They tried to kill us, we survived, let’s eat.”
What's the difference between Trump and a reformed Jew? Trump has Jewish grandchildren. People like Coleman are JINOs
