Agree. We have a voice. We were supposed to have a voice via our Congresspeople. However, there was no organized bully whip to make them listen. There is now.
I am highly suspicious of Mike Johnson, but time will tell if he is one of "us," or just another politician itching to enrich himself. Who the hell do these Senators and Congresspeople think they are? They can opt out of healthcare that the average person is made to take? I believe a whole lot of swamp draining must take place, to rid ourselves of these embedded leaches! The one person that I would like to see investigated, above all others, is L. Cheney, and her band of thugs, known as the J6 committee, with Nan Pelosi at the helm! We need to know everything. Not just what they want us to know. We the people are in charge, and most of them have forgotten this.
I think Mike means well. However, I believe he's the son of a teacher and a firefighter (check me). So, he's likely trying to do his best to "fit in". (Respectfully, He's also younger and has lesser experience that his looks might transmit.)
Regardless, this did not help our nation to restore trust among the people.
They all feel entitled because there are no term limits. Thus, if they abide by the wishes of leadership whom have control of re-election funding, they feel likely to be re-elected since funds for re-election will be forthcoming.
Indeed, successful long-term Congressional membership depends on favors one is willing to grant and, of course, willing to receive in exchange. The latter "exchange of favors" of course leads to general corruption of the management of our Constitutional Republic. The result, as we all know, is the bureaucratic administrative "deep" state, the entity that, in reality, runs the country instead of the Congress and the presidential administration.
The solution of course is to institute term-limits where the "favors" game is generally all for naught.
We’ve needed this for as long as I can remember! Great start, E, V, & D! And good for you, Roger, helping keep this ball rolling UPHILL! The establishment won’t roll over with out a continued strong effort by all of us!
Wouldn’t it be amazing if a real budget was created?! The clowns in DC have not done a budget in years. And, Johnson once again proved he is not up to the task of leader as he brought this forward. Can you imagine if during your career, you produce a thousand page budget and presented to you CEO ten minutes before the deadline - you would be flying out the door in a heartbeat, updating your resume on the way!
Roger: I sure hope we will not face the 'same ole', 'same ole' with the Omnibus bill. We did NOT VOTE for this garbage and I pray M. Johnson does the right thing.
Someone please tell me the difference between this last-minute CR "pork" bill and the "Michigan Avenue retail stores pillaged" debacle of several years ago. There should be consequences for those who spend like unchecked teenagers and pillagers.
The Democrat talking point today is "President Elon Musk." They are smug when they pronounce it -- they think they are so fucking clever, and in a way they are, as they are acknowledging they lost of the reins of power, but cutting Musk's feet out from underneath him while trying to sound like they're building him up. Uh-huh. They think: we'll turn Trump against his biggest asset and save our own bacon at the same time we leave Trump without his right hand. Too clever by half.
But the 1700 page bill disappeared and was replaced with one about one-tenth its size. Who's the joker now? Oh wait -- that bill was voted down and we have less than 24 hours before the government shuts down. I've lived through two of those. They left me embarrassed for my party but wishing we could have prevailed. Alas, we did not.
So now the Congress has to go back to work on a funding bill. They'll come back with something, but no matter what, Senate Leader Schumer will not get much of the pork he was working toward. That has to make us proud. I'm proud. Republicans in Congress finally stood up to the smug Democrats.
But the big news today is the WSJ article informing us that Joe Biden is mentally unfit to run the government. He has been from the beginning. He has been held up by staffers, notably Ron Klain and that arrogant worm Jake Sullivan. That makes me ill. Not because Biden fooled us, but because the unelected aids who have been running our government are not qualified to do so, either electorally or intellectually.
And it makes me wonder: who made the decision to write and push the passage of the so-called Inflation Reduction Act, which bumped our national debt up by 6 Trillion dollars? Can we sue Klain or Janet Yellen or Jake Sullivan for 6 Trillion in reparations? And who decided we were going to pump billions into Ukraine? As unelected officials, they exceeded their brief. What legal recourse is left to us to reclaim misused funds and punish the perps?
While Democrats sing in unison about "President Trump," we need to be asking these questions. Our government has been run for almost four years by unelected officials. Were do we go for a refund?
I am sure that Congress is already at work to do an "end around” move to get most of the money they wanted. Elected officials can hide things with great skills. It will be fun to watch the cat & mouse game.
Yes, it was good to see the DOGE team at work. I'm surprised though that you're still promoting Rick Grenell who has institutionalized sin claiming to be a "married" man and is an unrepentant practicing homosexual which the Bible and history have shown us to be corrosive to society. In 2015, Obergefell v. Hodges legitimized same sex marriage and essentially endorsed it as morally equivalent to marriage between a man and woman who call themselves husband and wife not husband and husband as homosexuals do. Homosexuality, as biological science bears out and sociological and psychological science affirms, is ultimately a choice and is not assigned at birth. Studies of identical twins have shown that it is not genetic when you see that one chooses homosexuality and the other doesn't. I'm sure everyone has noticed that since 2015 our country has entered into chaos unprecedented with the Trans movement and emergence of MAPS, (MInor Attracted Persons-previously known as pedophiles.) We kid ourselves if we think we can choose people to represent our nation who might be tops in their field but blatantly flout God's laws as prescribed in Jewish and Christian texts which are backed up on the pages of history as in Rome's demise which had a similar cavalier attitude toward homosexuality. But I'm not just picking on homosexuality but on any institutionalized or unrepentant, public sin however I can't think of any where the adulterer, fornicater, thief, murderer, drunkard etc., is exalted the way same sex marriage is and now we're gonna elevate Grenell and Bessent to national prominence and send the message to our youth that is OK to flout God's laws? I pray not. Here is President Trump's contact. Share your thoughts with him on the matter and ask him to withdraw their nominations or we can expect to fail in our glorious vision of a renewed America: https://www.45office.com/info/share-your-thoughts
I understand your well-considered and composed posting. It also seems you use facts, which I applaud. Thank you for these attributes.
I condemn pedophelia strongly. I condemn our government using our tax-dollars and the authority we provided to them to advocate to us. I condemn the infringement of the rights of others as related to the movement you identify. I also condemn people, especially free people, coercing others into their own habits and lifestyles (often it is an attempt to justify something they, themselves, have not fully accepted). We agree on these things.
I also understand that I am a classical Liberal American. So, I believe people have the right to pursue their freedoms as long as they don't harm others.
I also understand that Judeo-Christian values promote tolerance and forgiveness.
Our nation needs to come together now. This means tolerance of all people, taking action only when the rights of others are infringed. I mean this respectfully and appreciate your kind and earnest post. Thanks.
I think overt homosexuality has harmed a great many people which is the nature of sin and it is why God has condemned it. His love for His creation prevents Him from tolerating something that harms the individual and those associated with the sin. But with that said, the primary issue is the message our kids are sent. The practice is either wrong or it is right. No gray area when it comes to Biblically classified sin and behavior that's been shown historically to be damaging to society. This doesn't mean we barge into the homosexual's home and haul him out to the square for flogging or humiliation but it should mean that we don't codify and reinforce his behavior by applauding his expertise in a field while he flaunts his sin by claiming to be a man married to another man which of course means he is involved in Sodomy as in Sodom and Gomorrah, the cities God destroyed some 4000 years ago because of their sexual rebellion. There are many qualified people for Grenell's and Bessent's roles so it isn't necessary to shake a fist at God and proclaim we're gonna do what we want to do down here, thank You very much. It'll come home to roost because God is not mocked as the Bible tells us. Tolerance yes but not affirmation and approbation which is what a nationally prominent cabinet position would be. Thanks for your friendly response. It is much appreciated.
I also applaud your appropriate use of facts. My real concern is the abuse of sexual promiscuity which we became aware of during the JFK administration. He bedded MM in the White House and nothing was done. Ted had Chappaquiddick and nothing was done. Clinton had Lewinsky and nothing was done.
It's like driving 59 in a 55 versus 79. They're both illegal, only by matter of degree. So blatant whoredom and fornication are okay but homosexuality is not?
Don't misunderstand, I abhor all of it. But to cry against one and not all seems...you finish the thought.
Hi Jackie, as I wrote, there is a difference between codifying sin which is what Obergefell v. Hodges did in 2015 by legalizing same sex marriage which, in essence, endorsed the practice, putting it on an equal plane with marriage between a man and a woman. "Married" homosexuals are basically proclaiming that their sin is OK and is indistinguishable between that of God's union of XX and XY chromosome people forming a husband and wife team not a husband-husband partnership. It seems neither one wants to be the wife. The sin of the Kennedys, Clintons etc., is certainly not to be overlooked but never did the supreme court of the US declare that their behavior was equal to a sacred institution such as marriage. There is no legal validation offered adulterers, fornicators, thieves, drunkards, murderers as there is for practicing homosexuals who have stopped struggling against their sin and are living an ungodly lifestyle. Offering overt, proud homosexuals approbation by elevating them to national prominence in the cabinet is further endorsing what history has shown to be very corrosive to the fabric of society. In reference to JFK, what he supposedly did was immoral not illegal sadly. Same thing for Ted and Bill. Ted and Bill's issue was lying through their teeth about their peccadilloes and at least in Bill's case, he was impeached over it.
Without commenting on anything else, I am almost certain that what Ted Kennedy did at Chappaquiddick was no mere peccadillo but a very serious crime. Think about it.
I agree. It was a cover-up of negligent homicide at the very least which likely followed on the heels of a fling he'd had. A crime such as that and a cover-up following is reprehensible but no one ever said such sins were acceptable or even applaudable by the legalization of homicide or adultery which is what Obergefell v. Hodges did for homosexual behavior. Just because the Supreme Court erred on this one, does not mean we should endorse their mistake by offering affirmation and approbation to the homosexual, (male or female), who claims they are married, by elevating them to national prominence and effectively becoming role models for our impressionable children to emulate.
Roger, now I have a new earworm! YIKES! That being said, am so grateful you exposed this piece of "business as usual". May you be abundantly blessed for your cogent analysis of the lame duck situation!
The whole of Congress learning something? I hope you’re right about that. I don’t think Congress is capable yet to understand that this is their job—not career- and they have to listen to the people who are no longer silent. I am appalled that this lame duck Congress would give their support to such a bloated, ridiculous 1,500+ page “bill.” None of them should have supported this because it’s like a life-long wish list of EVERYTHING they want. Short and to the point is what the people demand. And thank G-d we have what I call the “Tres Triumphant Verity” —Those three men give me much hope for our country and our very existence.
Excellent commentary, Roger. I was confident (not jovial) that Mike Johnson (who carries the Rodney King mantra "Can we all just get along") was going to rubber stamp this multi-billion-dollar 2024 CR measure through congress to avoid being labeled the congress that shut government down (what BS). But, after reading your article, I'm rather hopeful that it will not pass.
Agree. We have a voice. We were supposed to have a voice via our Congresspeople. However, there was no organized bully whip to make them listen. There is now.

& buried deep within that "funding bill", TITLE VI—MISCELLANEOUS , section 605, would have giving Cheney, et al immunity from prosecution.
Good points.
Agree. He has the slenderest of a majority. And he could likely benefit from a surge of new staff.
