When I was a kid, I loved palindromes—you know, those sentences that are exactly the same read forward or backwards. Ripley’s Believe It or Not had quite a few.
These last few days, I have found one of these palindromes popping up over the decades from my unconscious:
“Able was I ere I saw Elba.”
Why was that coming to the fore? Then I remembered it had been attributed to French emperor Napoleon Bonaparte on his exile to the island of Elba. It also was a bit of a double entendre but more importantly could not really be ascribed to Napoleon who died many years before its first recorded appearance.
But the palindrome did, as noted, refer to the exile of a leader to a distant island. Hmmm…
At the same time, I had been reading—as have most of you, I’m sure—about the evidentiary material just released to the Department of Justice by former Democrat now DNI Tulsi Gabbard on the Russiagate matter. These were newly unclassified documents sent to the DOJ for the potential indictment of former president Barack Obama and his co-conspirators—James Comey, John Brennan, James Clapper, Susan Rice, Joe Biden, Hilary Clinton, Lisa Monaco and likely others.
I don’t believe I have to rehearse it here. There are many detailed reports on these documents at this point, although more are evidently to come as well as reports from whistleblowers.. A good deal of this material we have known or suspected for a long time from sources like Lee Smith’s superb Plot Against the President, but what’s new here is this is the first time we have direct evidence of the crime from White House files and that evidence has been referred to Justice for prosecution. They must do their job. If they don’t, they should be fired.
All praise, however, to Ms. Gabbard for bringing this forward. She is a hero and a remarkably courageous woman given what we all know could happen to her.
I realize that there are some on the conservative side of the ledger—I have seen them on X— who, per usual, are skeptical anything will come of this. It will go down the proverbial memory hole. I don’t think that’s the right or healthy attitude. It’s an easy route and a self-fulling prophecy but more importantly I think they are wrong in this instance. This cat is not only out of the bag—it’s running around everywhere, growing into a full-sized feline, and biting everyone on the leg. Even shooting it might not put it back. (Okay, that’s not a great metaphor, but you get my point.) As has been said before, the whole world is watching. (That includes everyone reading this. I know you’re not going to let this rest.)
So I am going to jump ahead and examine what should be done to these incredibly evil people.
I will stipulate two things.
One, Russiagate was far and away the greatest and most consequential scandal in American political history dwarfing Watergate by a factor so large it’s impossible to estimate. Benedict Arnold (never convicted) is nothing by comparison.
Putting it simply, a cabal under a president in the last month of his presidency, at a meeting inside the White House, set out to destroy his successor’s presidency just days before the inauguration of that successor who was duly elected by the American people. All of America, even Democrats though they may not realize it, was betrayed as our constituional republic was being subverted and placed in jeopardy.
The cabal did this, as Gabbard makes clear, by lying extensively, using evidence (the Steele Dossier) they knew to be a salacious fake and colluding with all-too-willing government agencies and their myriad press toadies to amplify their malign and completely illegal ends. There’s probably a good deal more we don’t know yet but it’s beginning to sound as if we will.
This plot that Gabbard called “a year-long coup” was largely successful and was able to considerably hamper the Trump administration in many ways, including through the extremely expensive and thoroughly dishonest (they knew it was a fishing expedition) deliberately endless Mueller investigation.
Two, whether this is treason or sedition—I won’t get into this because not a Constitutional lawyer—doesn’t really matter. What they did is horrendous under any definition. Nevertheless, the death penalty, a possible penalty only for treason, should not be employed.
It should be something worse, something these people will have to live with for the rest of their days.
.As you might guess, I lean toward exile, the more ignominious the better, although there can be some who go to prison (supermax preferred) like John Brennan. A “progressive” Connecticut congressman just expressed concern for Mr. Brennan’s safety lest the former Stalinist (he voted for Gus Hall for president, if you know who he is) be assassinated by people the congressman calls “MAGA mouth breathers.” We wouldn’t want to see the congressman upset.
But before they go either to prison or into exile, these evil-doers must apologize to the American people for betraying them in a public forum, the more widely publicized the better. It should be an internal Nuremberg Trial where all the crimes are spelled out.
If Barack Obama is exiled, it shouldn’t be a pleasant one. He already has an island paradise in Hawaii. He should be stripped of that, his other lavish residences and his savings and sent off to an island far away to live out his years. The most stringent economic sanctions should be in place to prevent financial rehabilitation.
The others could be given similar treatment. Be gone and never darken our shores again. Go be an impoverished waiter in Kuala Lumpur. There are worse fates.
Scads of lawyers are already rolling their eyes at the impossibility of this, but I would ask them a simple question. Shouldn’t the punishment fit the crime? These people need to be humiliated so what they did does not repeat and become pro forma for our political life. Things are bad enough already. That internal Nuremberg Trial needs to be held and everything they did exposed with all of them sitting there to hear it.
There are no excuses for their crimes. These are not poor people needing a few dollars from a 7-11 to survive. They are all rich or very rich.
Nevertheless, they probably believe or rationalize their actions with the Marxist dictum “the ends justify the means,” but so probably did Mao when he initiated the Great Leap Forward that starved 30 million Chinese to death and so did Stalin when he starved millions during the Holodomor.
Obama, the capo de tutti capi of this cabal, the man without whom none of this would have happened, must go far away. We don’t want him in a local prison where people are protesting his innocence non-stop. He started America on the wrong path and is the spiritual father of Zohran Mandani in New York and now Omar Fateh in Minneapolis. The line from Obama’s attendance at the Reverend Wright’s Trinity United Church of Christ (he married them) to Mandani and Fateh, as well as the current mayor of Los Angeles, not to mention the mentorship of Frank Marshall Davis, is not hard to draw. We must put an end to it for the sake of the country.
On top of all this, many innocent people and their families were wounded irreparably) by the jihad-like Russia hoax. They call themselves “Remnants” in this excellent article I recommend to all.
So say it together now: “Able was I ere I saw Elba.”
ON PRIZES
The New York Times and the Washington Post were awarded Pulitzers for their large teams that clearly misreported (aka lied about) the Russia collusion story. Thus far they have clung to those awards. Will they now give them back? Will the Pulitzer committee take them back? Given the nature of those institutions, it is unlikely. Nevertheless, their futures are besmirched.
Also besmirched is the Nobel Peace Prize awarded to Barack Obama for nothing discernible. In his presidency he did little or nothing for peace and now these revelations. Will his Nobel be rescinded? Also not likely. More to the point, should Donald Trump want such a tarnished award?
Excellent post, Roger. As many suspected for years, Obama is being exposed as a petty little thug, much like the man behind the curtain in the Wizard of Oz. The important difference is that Obama also includes an enormous element of evil and arrogance in his makeup. While it seems unlikely that he will be dropped on a remote island to live out the rest of his miserable life, it’s an excellent goal. Maybe 🤔 he could be sentenced to spend the rest of his life in the company of the also miserable Michelle?
Only in my imagination did I think the truth would come even this close to being exposed. I am hoping our country is strong enough to hold those accountable to pay for their crimes to the fullest extent of the law. It will take immense courage and quiet possibility cause civil war. No matter, it must be done if we are to survive as the United States of America, as we were founded 249 years ago.
