Israel needs to ignore the emotional outbursts of the world at large and focus on victory. Hamas has made it clear they will never submit to anything other than death to all Jews and destruction of Israel. It will be an existential battle and won't be pretty or clean or antiseptic. (and this is the time to do it while Iran is on it's back foot)
Yes, the AP is utter garbage. No argument there. Which highlights a real problem facing Americans: small newspapers across the country are being bought up and stripped of value, then left to operate as advertising rags. As thin as they were before, small-town papers are even thinner now and their only resort is to use AP if they want to cover anything national or international. You can see where this leaves more and more people: dependent on institutions like AP to filter their news. Not good.
I'm sorry, Roger, but your piece totally baffles me. What is all this musing about "the 2008 election" and "the 2009 Inauguration"? Is your time machine in the shop?
Ah, Roger, I love your optimism! I myself am a deep pessimist, and, for balance, this is my take: As I see Trump right now in videos, he seems to me to be shaking/vibrating with tiredness. "Overworked" doesn't begin to describe the man. He IS human, and NOBODY can keep up the pace he is setting for long. I think the chances are very good that he will not last his full term either because 1) he will have a massive stroke or heart attack OR 2) he will be assassinated (already 2 attempts we know about). Ptooey, ptooey, ptooey (against this evil prediction). May God bless and protect him!
Trump seems hale to me. With Huge plans (pronounced in his inimitable formulation as huuuuge), and finally a superb group working with him (even the Congress critters, at times).
The best thing about Trump is not only does he reach broadly and deeply, but he does it with humor. We are blessed.
Roger, why havent the Israelis taken out the rich Hamas fat cat leaders in Doha? Wouldnt that be the coup de grace for Hamas? As a little French general once said, “ If you’re going to take Berlin, TAKE Berlin!” Gloves off, all in, no quarter.
The Trumpster is on a quest to bring the USA back. He won't quit until he's room temperature. MAGA IS the Republican party now. RINO's just don't realize it yet.
Agree, but I think the RINOOS realize it and are acting out. Their ox is being gored. What we are now seeing writ large is the essence of what our politics has been for years.
I have some suggested reading for you , Jim. It's called "The Positivity Bias". Changed my life a little. I have my dark moods like everybody. This book placed them in a different perspective without being dopey self-help stuff. It's by Mendel Kalmenson (sp?), the Chabad rabbi of Bulgaria, London.
You nailed it, Roger. History has so much to teach us, so much to calm us down in the midst of troubled times.
Think back to the "big," "wild," most hated, presidents in our history and how they persisted as "the president" after they left office: Theodore Roosevelt was so big, and so despised, mocked, feared by his enemies, that his successor Will Taft was eclipsed by the shadow, just as Bush after Reagan, VanBuren after Jackson, Truman after FDR, Johnson after Lincoln. (TR even ran against Taft, and tried to run again in 1916). FDR died, of course, but think how his widow Eleanor persisted in being his alter ego till she died, a presence no one in the Democrat party could ignore. Jackson was another "wildman" like TR and Trump, and until Lincoln came along, Jackson was "the president" every successor was compared to. Lincoln was even more disruptive--and more hated--than Trump, and after he was killed, every president till TR was compared to him. Jefferson was also hated, by his opponents, and till Jackson came along, it was Jefferson who was the paradigm of "president" in the public's mind. (Jackson didn't win the office till after Jefferson died!) Reagan, of course, we can't leave out, and isn't it interesting that of all the presidential portraits Trump has hung in the Oval Office, it's Reagan's that holds the place of prominence?
And here's the kicker: all these great men were characterized in their time by how much their opponents and the "nice people" hated them! Except for Jefferson, they were all shot at! And three of them are on Mt. Rushmore.
Another insightful post. There are constitutional ways that another Trump term could happen. Running as VP, for example, with a cooperative POTUS. That is just one of the mechanisms. Whatever happens we need a sustainable path that steers us away from communism, and towards liberty. The age of AI is a huge wild card that will play into the politics quickly. In regards to Gaza, there are extreme opinions on both sides. I ask myself the question, if the Gazans are starving and fighting for survival how is it that they still have internet access to post all of their propaganda? What's really going on here?
"Pray for Israel, which is now apparently going to fight a war full force it should have fought on October 8, 2023"
💯% agreed! Had that happened then it would'a saved a lotta lives & ammo & mebbe we choos would still be able ta order a blintz without worry, as we now need eyes in the back'a our heads out in public... Better late.... as they say!
Got my journalism degree early 70s. The AP ( and NYT) were considered the Holy Grails of journalism then. The AP has been a joke for a good dozen yrs and i’ve been astonished at what they put out—bias, loaded words, lack of relevant context, writer bias stated as fact, no attribution…🤮🤮🤮🤮

Not good, indeed. It is time to take on the AP and really discredit it. I think it can be done.

I love that he tells you exactly what he’s thinking—sometimes a bit inarticulate, maybe poor word choices—but he works for Americans

I'm with that Grench general--in this instance anyway.
Correction: ". . . after the 2029 inauguration."

From your words to G-d’s ears. You are correct on every issue.
I hope you're right and that this isn't just the Last Hurrah before the fall of civilization.

Thank you, Roger Simon. You made my day.
Obama had a third term the same way-and arguably when he was unaccountable he was far worse than when he was accountable....

Can’t run for ELECTED office if he would be ineligible to serve. He could be Speaker of the House… then Pres and VP resign.
