The perpetual response to everyone who calls on Americans to "share the wealth" should be "you first. Lead us by example, not exhortation."

I understand the frustration with capitalism with the millennials/Gen Z, who see themselves struggling to achieve or reach the same level of their parents. What's warped their perception of socialism is their addiction to social media and general lack of historical knowledge. Most them could not tell an interviewer when the Holocaust occurred.

I think they need to speak to actual immigrants from socialist/communist countries in Eastern Europe, Cuba, Venezuela, etc., particularly successful ones, and ask "why did you come here?" "would you go back today?" It's possible that might change their perception. (or maybe a reverse Mariel boatlift?)

We give them trite phrases like "socialism: you can vote yourself in but you'll have to shoot yourself out". It's likely true but they have no frame of reference so it doesn't resonate with them.
