Freud knew what he was getting at when he wrote that “the distortion of a text is not unlike a murder, that the difficulty was not in doing the deed but in eliminating the traces” (Moses and Monotheism). The Dems are trying to “distort the text” of President Trump by any means necessary, but cannot pull it off. Freud endorsed Thomas Mann’s speculation about a “secret daemonic motor” (driven by unconscious fantasy) that raises historical figures for whom the life of a biblical character was a mythical prototype (Freud proposed that Napoleon styled himself as the biblical Joseph). Freud might see President Trump as another Moses, leading the people into a new promised land, but then murdered by those he led in a vicious scapegoating.
I'm going to push back a little on the "stop using drugs" suggestion.
My wife has asthma, and drugs at times are the only reason she can breath is because of drugs.
And I was diagnosed ADHD (and autistic) just over a year ago, and taking a stimulant means I can almost keep up on chores, and at work, I can focus much longer on tasks than I was before.
But I'm only pushing back a little bit, because I also tried a non-stimulant for ADHD, and all it did was make me sleepy and make my thoughts feel like molasses. Everyone reacts to drugs in different ways, and what may be a lifesaver for one person might be a nightmare for another!
What a treat to hear from the old cigar-smoker! And good on you for sharing the conservation. While you're touching base with historical figures, what's the chances you could interview JC himself? That would be a memorable conversation!
Brilliantly done! "Narcissism of small differences" Yep. Brilliant.
Terrific take Roger, with lots of substance!

Interesting post. Yes, distortion of the text is all around us. Rare is the time that it isn't.

“Narcissism of small differences.” Excellent take, Dr. Simon!
Nicely done! I wish it were longer. (SF: that's what she said.)
Or as Karl Krauss called it, "the mental illness which it pretends to cure" (or something like that)... Karl had one of the world's first substacks.
Well those cigar references!!! Men never change.. But that is OK.. It's life...
Or as Mozart said, Cosí fan tutti!

No question about it putting words into Sigmund’s mouth is a high level affair!
Yes very well done.
Ha! Well done!
Well done
